Minister of Culture and Information of Saudi Arabia Abdulaziz Bin Mohiddin Khoja Calls on Culture Minister Chandresh Kumari Katoch

India and Saudi Arabia here today held a delegation level talk in the field of culture. The talks were held between Culture Minister Smt. Chandresh Kumari Katoch and the visiting Culture and Information Minister of Saudi Arabia Mr. Abdulaziz bin Mohiddin Khoja.

During the meeting, Smt. Katoch said that India and Saudi Arabia are bound by common and shared history with centuries old commercial and people to people contacts. She appreciated the Saudi Government for hosting over 2 million Indians who remained the preferred work force and contribute positively to the overall development of the country of their residence. She expressed happiness over the growing cultural interaction between the two countries. The MoU on cultural cooperation signed between the two countries in 2010 has provided a framework for deeper engagement.

The Culture and Information Minister of Saudi Arabia Mr. Abdulaziz bin Mohiddin Khoja said that given the ancient historical bonds between the two countries there was a need to show each other the rich cultural diversities that prevailed in India and Saudi Arabia. In this regard, the Culture Minister of Saudi Arabia proposed holding of a painting / photographs exhibition on historical monuments at Riyadh National Museum and also at Jeddah and Damam; Cooperation in documentation of antiquities between Riyadh National Museum and National Institute of Art Conservation and Museology New Delhi; Sharing the Indian experience in exploration and excavation of archaeological sites in association with Archaeological Survey of India; Cooperation between the National Archives of India and the Saudi Libraries on preservation, maintenance and conservation of archival records; Cooperation between IGNCA and King Fahd institute of Culture; Holding of Calligraphy exhibitions in India and Saudi Arabia and Hosting of a music troupe from India in 2014. The Saudi Culture Minister expressed interest in the Festivals of India being held in South East Asia and the impact they had in cultural integration in the region.

The two sides agreed to take the collaboration forward in a focussed and intensive manner with collaboration at institutional level being formulated. The Culture Minister of Saudi Arabia extended an invitation to the Culture Minister of India to visit Riyadh to take the collaboration forward.
