Indian tourism minister announced the setting up of a National Medical and Wellness Tourism Board

Indian tourism minister announced the setting up of a National Medical and Wellness Tourism Board to boost medical tourism in India. The Board will help to bring together and showcase on an international platform the various streams of medicine available in India including Ayurveda, Yoga, naturopathy, Unani and low cost allopathic treatments. Dr Sharma, the minister of tourism, said that this will give an organized structure to medical tourism in India with participation of various stakeholders including the private ones.

Aforementioned statement of tourism minister indicates that India holds the enormous potentialities to develop the medical tourism in India due to availability of professional skilled medical manpower and low cost treatment expenses in compare to other competitive countries like Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and other European countries. Most of medical tourist in India come from the Arab and other South Asian countries who are Muslim by faiths and prefer the Halal friendly services along with the better treatment. Private sector can come out with more friendly packages to attract this particular segment which could cause to further expansion of Medical tourism in India.
